Chin Tiong was born in 1908.  Chin Tiong's father was Keng Tye Chia and his mother was Tuan Neo Lim.  His paternal grandparents were Chia Hood Theam and Lan Neo Yeo. He had a brother and five sisters, named Bok, Amy, Grace, Elsie, Maggie and Daisy. He had a half-sister named Lyna.  He died at the age of 86 in 1994.
